While we are totally spoiled for choice at Kolkata’s eateries during Poila Boisakh, we came upon the makings of a hugely authentic and value for money spread at The  Stadel. At this popular three-star hotel, within the Salt Lake Stadium,  a boutique hotel which has been around now for sixteen years, their offerings come up during many festivals and occasions, from  jamai sashthi, and  bhai phonta, to  Durga Puja and Christmas. The Poila Boisakh spread this year is titled Baisakhi Mahabhoj, available on 14th and 15th April for lunch and dinner.

The buffet starts with a gondhoraj doi ghol and bel shorbat as welcome drinks, plenty of starters like Gondhoraj Paneer Tikka, Chana Dal Posto Bora, Doi Vada, Mochar Chop, Topse Fry, Egg Devil & Chicken Cutlet; shorbas featuring mutton paya and tomato dhania; lots of fries, chutneys and desserts (featuring everything from baked rosogolla to malpua rabri) .The Main Course? Some excellent vegetarian specialities like Echorer Kofta Kalia, Kodaishuti Dhokar Dalna, Lau Bori Ghonto, Muktomukhi Shukto, Narkol Diye Cholar Dal, Kodaishutir Kochuri and a range of non vegetarian traditional dishes like Potoler Dorma,  Katla Kalia, Chingri Malai Curry, Kacha Lonka Murgi, Kochi Pathar Kosha Mangsho, Bhetki Paturi. At Rs. 1300 plus taxes per head, it appears to be a masterful tempting choice to plough through.
