Seventeen varieties of kebabs under one roof? Really? Pinchos, a new gourmet specialty kebab café that just got inaugurated on the 22nd has this on offer and more.  Actress Koneenica Banerjee launched it ceremonially by cutting a cake—most appropriately it was an enormous galouti kebab. The mutton galouti also finds place in a Begum burger, as a patty in a sesame crusted bun.

Pinchos incidentally, for the non-initiate in Spanish, means “skewers”. This 36-seater café, located thankfully on the ground floor has been conceptualized and designed as well by owners Imtiaz Ahmed and Javed Alam who run an independent interior design company. Ambience: contemporary, but with lots of traditional elements. There’s 3D art and 3D embossed wallpaper images, to give a sense of extended space. And bespoke lights with Mughal designs. For Gen Y, a Selfie point exists, with hand-painted plates. A handmade wall mural of a white rose adds a touch of sophistication.

What about the food items?

This kebab haven has as its culinary experts Suparno Roy and Alok Mishra of Kolkata’s favorite food truck ‘Thank God It’s Fresh’. Biryani exists of course, with a special infusion of spices, with a home cooked flavor, apart from the huge kebab varieties. Fusion food aplenty - like sandwiches and submarines along with burgers with vegetarian selections too. Another exciting dish to look forward to is the Spanish Gambas al Ajillo –a light and fresh preparation of grilled prawns with garlic, pepper and hot lemon butter. All dishes can be enjoyed with cold fresh mocktails and hot Kashmiri Zaafrani chai as well as coffee.

Pinchos has facilities for home delivery and can be found on 3 Bompas Road, Calcutta 700029. 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
