The Oberoi Grand Kolkata was first off the mark with the traditional cake mixing ceremony, something that Calcuttans have come to look forward to well before Christmastime.

An unusually laid out long table had all the best of dried fruits laid out in designs. The welcome drink in demitasses was an unusual hot chocolate. And the welcome red and white wines were served to all the guests. There was also a tea and coffee service for those that preferred something milder as well as a number of mocktails on hand.

Once the gathering of women had donned their red aprons and toques, they were ready to mix in with vigor and josh the brandy, rum and whisky until the heady fumes were a signal that the mixing had reached its peak! And it was time for a wide range of exotic savory titbits that were the titillation, along with special plum pudding and strawberry waffles served with sinful dollops of cream. The GM gave out little back presents, too, assuring everyone that the Christmas cake would now be readied and we had to patiently wait it out for a month.
