The More Than 360 Experience – Lunch Buffet At The Threesixtythree, Oberoi Grand, Kolkata

The lunch buffet at the Oberoi Grand Hotel is definitely more than a 360° experience. The concept is similar to the ones that are presented at the Oberoi Hotels in New Delhi and Gurgaon.

The all-day dining restaurant is open from 6.30 am to midnight. Threesixtythree° is an extremely modern restaurant with a tremendous range of culinary delights. The restaurant is beautifully decorated by British period art.  This is a tribute to Kolkata city with some of the old time favorites on the Menu. The lunch buffet is from Monday to Saturday and is priced at Rs 1,450 plus taxes. They also a lavish Sunday Brunch which is served with a variety of wines and champagnes.

The menu is “ingredients driven”.  The focus is Japanese cuisine which is a novelty in Kolkata. Chef Raul Borja is the specialty Sushi chef with a varied global experience and is the man in charge.  The delicate Sushi rolls served with freshly ground wasabi were amazing.  Special signatures that we enjoyed were the Dynamite maki made of crispy prawn tempura and decorated with a spicy mayonnaise along with vegetarian Chili maki or crackling maki with a teary chilli edge.  Other selection offered were salads and appetizers, vegetarian and non-vegetarian main courses in continental, Indian and Chinese along with a large dessert variety.

The Chinese section of the menu is a tribute to Calcutta’s China town with the “Hakka style” and chop suey specialities.  They also offer wood-fired pizzas with the signature being the one baked with fresh Italian Bocconcini, tomato, olive and basil. Some other specialities offered in the main course were the Shepard’s Pie, Roast Turkey and some delicious home- style Indian items.

The salad and appetizer bar had some unique salads like Pepper Crusted Tenderloin with tomato olive dressing, Spicy Watermelon Salad with a Thai twist, Prosciutto and Melon, Broccoli and Green Apple Salad, Asparagus with Arugula and Parmesan flakes and a Japanese Style Shrimp Popcorn with a Spicy Sauce.  The salad bar offered some trendy ingredients such as Castelvetrano Olives, Burrata Cheese and a variety of greens.

The ala carte menu included Lobster Thermidor, Prawn Cocktail, Baked Alaska, Smoked Hilsa and the other grand Kolkata classics.

My favorite in the dessert selection was the Tiramisu with a great coffee liquor flavor.  Other specialities were the monochrome gateaux, mango popsicle with chili flakes and a variety of Bengali sweets.

I strongly recommend that you keep a good appetite before you visit, as this buffet will fill you up!

Finally, I would like to comment that the service throughout our meal was attentive, polite and the staff answered all our queries displaying a wealth of knowledge. Kudos to Executive Chef Mr. Saurav Banerjee and GM Mr. Varun Chhibber for introducing Kolkata to the best fine-dining buffet in the city!
