A story well known. A story relived a number of times. The journey of a small village into one of the vibrant smart cities of India is legendary. Yet the narrative remains immensely relevant as it traces the vision of one man which has initiated the trailblazing transformation of a hamlet. As this beloved city completes the 100th anniversary of renaming the city of Jamshedpur, the Steel City witnessed a vibrant celebration of the 180th birth anniversary of its founder Jamshedji Tata on March 3rd, 2019.

The festivities began early in the morning with the march-past program of various departments of Tata Steel at the Works Main Gate inside Tata Steel premises. The Technical Exhibition by Capability Development Department noticed a huge footfall on Day 2 of the celebration. People from different walks of life, including students from colleges and schools visited the exhibition. In the evening a cultural function was organized and the trainees enthralled the audience with their performances.

The theme of this year was 'Technovation at work' with the tag line 'Brighter tomorrow starts today' where the trainees exhibited different innovative projects. Some of the innovative creations that were showcased in the event were digital solution for city management, smart blind stick, human powered crop harvester, safety helmet for confined space.

Take a look at some of the lovely floats which were part of the celebrations. The march-past and floats were judged by a group of people and the names of the winners are:

Float winner: Shared Services

Runners-up: Raw Materials & FAMD

The Founder's Day celebration began with much fanfare when N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons inaugurated the lights at Jubilee Park. Despite of a weather playing a bit of spoiler for the past few days, it could not dampen the spirit of the proud Jamshedpurians. Once the lights illuminated the Jubilee Park, the entire city became alive. This year, the lights highlighted the growth chart of Tata Steel. The lights also focused on various Tata concerns like climate change and energy conservation. Behind this great illumination were the magic workers from Chandannagar who visualized the concept and took 1.5 months to complete the humungous task. Of course, one of the main attractions of this year was the beautiful hues of the fountain.

As part of the celebration, Nicco Jubilee Park in Jamshedpur got its very own Splash Zone which was inaugurated on March 3rd, 2019. It includes fun rides for visitors of all ages. Take a look at the newest hang out zone of Jamshedpur.
