Misti Hub − Sweet Bengal

There was a message sent on my phone that brought me out from South Kolkata and took me toward New Town on the way to the airport (Eco Park Owl More) as it is called were I found this majestic Bangla Misti Hub. The sliding doors opened effortlessly to a well-spaced and beautifully lit store, inviting us to enter into the sweet world of Bengal.

If you are on your way to the airport or returning from it, this is a place where you will want to stop by.

There are a multitude of stalwart brands known through Kolkata such as Nalin Chandra Das, Balaram Mullick and Radharam Mullick, Ganguram, Bancharam’s, K.C Das, Hindustan Sweets, and Gupta Brothers to mention a few. The iconic sweets closely related to the history of Kolkata are all displayed at this hub.

In case you would like to enjoy the fresh air, there are benches to sit outside and enjoy your misti doi, mihidana, or baked rosogolla while you watch children playing here.

The day I visited, the car park was almost full and to add to our enjoyment there was a musical program by Chinmoy Adak who sang folk songs from Purulia, Bankura and other regions of Bengal. There were song requests from the crowd and he obliged by singing his favorite Baul and other popular folk songs including Bhatiali, Shari, Bhawaiya, Chatka, Gomira, Alkap, Ghambhira, Baul, Bhadutushu, Jhumur and others which made this a captivating and memorable evening.

So if you are looking for very ethnic sweets of the state like langcha of Shaktigarh, sharbhaja and sharpuria of Krishnaagar, sitabhog and mihidana of East Burdwan, and chaanabora of Berhampur, Murshidabad, then you must stop by Biswa Bangla Sarani and pick up some of these mouth-watering delicacies for yourself, your friends and family who will be thrilled to receive them.
