It is the center for art, culture, dance, music and all other forms of artistic expression. EZCC has been set up to develop and promote  the rich diversity and uniqueness of various arts and to upgrade and enrich and popularise Indian  cultural heritage. The performances give special emphasis on art forms that link various regions of India focusing on the evolution of styles and and their contribution to the overall cultural heritage of the country.  Very often that is why you will see programs here which encourage folk and tribal arts and special programs are held in EZCC to preserve and strengthen the vanishing art forms.

To involve the youth, there are seminars, exchanges, talks, workshops and several other cultural activities because such programs add to the creative cultural communication for shaping the minds of the young and talented. The Eastern Zonal Cultural Center (EZCC) is one of the seven Zonal Cultural Centers established initially at Shantineketan, West Bengal on the initiative of the HRD Ministry in 1985, and has since shifted to Kolkata. An autonomous organization under Ministry of Culture  it covers Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Manipur, Odisha, Sikkim, Tripura, West Bengal and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. EZCC also promotes and safeguards folk and tribal arts, theater rejuvenation, folk dance festivals and craft fairs besides other activities.
