Bengali Cuisine In Our Millennium City-Gurgaon!

Who would have thought Bengali cuisine would carve a niche in our Millennium city, Gurgaon! Earlier we would head over to Chittaranjan Park, a mini Kolkata, for sampling the delights of Bengali food. For our much-needed fish supply, we had to brave the inevitable traffic snarls to get to Chittaranjan Park.

Now to take you through the many places serving Bengali food in Gurgaon − and I have eaten at quite a few of them, I have managed with the help of friends to make a handy guide for those interested in such food! The vibrancy, vivaciousness and feisty nature of the Bengali people is very much evident in their food too I feel and most of my friends echo this impression.

Cyber Hub in Gurgaon bears testimony to the fact that the Millennium city caters to all kinds of palettes and of course, Bengali cuisine has to be a part of it! To begin with, what could be better than tried and tested places like Oh! Calcutta, Bengali by Nature, Ki Hangla and the Bijoli Grill?

Oh! Calcutta is a chain of restaurants serving authentic Bengali cuisine along with a nice blend of locally favored dishes. In Gurgaon, centrally located in the ground floor of the DLF Tower in Cyber City, Oh! Calcutta is mostly brimming with visitors all through the week. Nestled amidst the sophisticated offices of multinational companies, it is very popular. I can only say you must book a table well in advance if you plan to catch their delectable lunches and dinners! Their impeccable staff and excellent service makes it a worthwhile visit each time!

Bengali by Nature is another family restaurant on MG Road in Gurgaon. Located in Maruti Vihar, it is near Crosspoint Mall in DLF. This restaurant is good for casual get-togethers and family outings. Kid-friendly and accompanied by good service, one’s visits here are an absolute must!

The Bijoli Grill in Southpoint Mall and the one in Good Earth Mall, I can vouch for if one has a sudden craving for Bong food, as I must admit I’m guilty of quite frequently. Their prawn dishes as well as their normal, everyday dishes like fish curries, chicken curries and mutton or “Kosha Mangsho” are excellent! One cannot help licking one’s fingers surreptitiously after consuming the many delectable dishes on offer at this establishment which has its own fan following.

Though I can quote innumerable names, which incidentally can be easily retrieved from the Zomato App, such as Banani’s Kitchen, Bengali Hotel and Ki Kolkata, one must not leave out the local, Bengali flavor of Gurgaon! A couple of names crop up to mind − the Bengal Fish Corner in sector 45 and the much popular, Ki Hangla. These are good value for money. Ki Hangla in DLF, Phase IV has super food and a good home delivery system. I simply love their savory rolls, fish cakes and chops! Their full course menu is also full of delicious dishes.

Another good restaurant I can recommend for those staying near DLF, Phase I, is the Abar Khabo, located in the very much convenient Qutub Plaza market. Reasonably priced and offering a very good menu of Bengali food, it has become quite popular of late.

A couple of local restaurants with a blend of North Indian and Bengali food have also become popular in Gurgaon. One is Banini’s Kitchen in sector 49 and Pet Puraan in DLF, Phase IV. There is also the Hungry Gopal for Bengali fast food in sector 57 and Tribong in Sushant Vyapar Kendra, C Block; Sushant Lok for fusion cuisine, as well as the Rock E Adda in Nirvana Courtyard, Sector 50.

A couple of other interesting names of restaurants serving Bengali fast food as well as other cuisines dotting our Millennium city are the Silbatta Authentic Regional Curries in Sushant Arcade in Sushant Lok, Phase I, the Tiffin Box in Rodeo Drive, South City II, the Sukhadaya in Bhagwan Mahaveer Marg near the Hotel Ramada, Sector 44 and a small outlet near the sector 56 Metro Station called Peeka’s Bong Box! “I just want to eat” is another restaurant in Sector 53 recommended by a friend serving Bengali food amongst other cuisines. They are just a call away if one suddenly needs to satisfy hunger pangs and has time only to grab a quick bite.

I hope I have managed to give a handy guide to those interested in sampling delectable and mouth-watering and not to forget, finger licking, Bengali food in most of the central places in Gurgaon.
